Transform your nose with rhinoplasty

Your nose is one of your most distinguishing facial traits and can greatly affect how you feel about yourself. It could be that you feel your nose is too large for your face. Or perhaps your nose is a bit crooked and you’d like it to be straighter. Or maybe you just had a different image of how you saw yourself, versus what you see in the mirror. Dr. Andres performs rhinoplasty so that his patients can have the chance to finally feel good about their features.

Tailored to you

Because each face has its own unique sense of symmetry, the nose that is selected for you may not fall under what others define as a “perfect nose.” That being said, the nose that you and Dr. Andres decide on will ultimately be the most fitting shape and size for your personal features.

Listed below are a few of the ways that rhinoplasty can help you obtain facial symmetry

  • Making the nose straighter, shorter or narrower
  • Removing a protuberant hump
  • Reshaping the tip of the nose as well as the nostrils, if desired

About the procedure

During the procedure, the skin surrounding the nose will be carefully and expertly detached from the cartilage and bone of the nose. Once the skin has been separated, Dr. Andres may find it necessary to shave the bone down, in order to create a more delicate-looking or angled bridge of the nose. Dr. Andres may also find that removing some cartilage from the tip of the nose is needed, so as to sculpt out the shape and overall result that the patient wishes for.

In addition, Dr. Andres can reshape the nostrils by precisely removing small sections of the nose, then repositioning the nostrils so that they appear closer to each other. Finally, the septum (which is the part of the nose that separates the two airways of the nose from each other) can be trimmed in order to alter the angle of the nose. A rhinoplasty procedure typically takes 3-4 hours to complete. However, this is entirely determined by the extent of change that the individual patient is requesting.

Preparing for rhinoplasty

Prior to your rhinoplasty procedure, it is highly recommended that you wear sunscreen every day, particularly one containing a high UVA/UVB protection for your skin. A good place to start is preferably with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 or more. Also using a cool mist humidifier before surgery and after surgery for the first several weeks will help with any discomfort.

During recovery

After your rhinoplasty procedure, you will be able to return home. Your nose will be bandaged in order to facilitate proper healing. A week or so following your surgery, you will see the majority of swelling and bruising diminish. It is very common that most patients feel ready to pick up to their daily routines at this time. It may be longer than one week if you have more extensive changes done to your nose.
