About Breast Implant Exchange
For most breast implant exchange procedures, it is fairly similar to an augmentation surgery. Dr. Andres should be able to make the incision through the original incision site, to transfer out the implant for the new one.
A breast implant exchange surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure using IV sedation or general anesthesia, which is delivered exclusively under the care of a board-certified anesthesiologist. The original implant is removed and meticulously replaced with a new one. Dr. Andres may find it necessary to slightly adjust the placement of the new implant, depending on the condition of the previous “pocket” as well as the competence of the initial breast implant positioning.
A breast implant exchange surgery takes approximately 2 hours. Dr. Andres uses his extensive skill set and knowledge to ensure you receive ideal results with breast implant exchange Phoenix & Scottsdale.
During Recovery
Recovery is nearly the same as your initial augmentation surgery. Once out of surgery, you will be allowed to return home. Your breasts will be carefully bandaged, to avoid any possible chance of infection, as well as to help promote the healing process. It's normal to have some bruising, swelling, and a general feeling of tightness in the chest area, initially. To assist the healing process, you will likely be given a surgical support bra. This bra should be worn consistently for the first several weeks. You’ll want to avoid any lifting, or strenuous activity for the first week to 10 days. Typically, patients feel able to return to their day-to-day routine, including work, within a week or so. More strenuous activity may be taken up again 3 to 4 weeks after your surgery.
