Brachioplasty is the medical term for “arm lift” surgery. This procedure can create firm, sculpted upper arms. Due to aging, as a result of weight gain and loss, or as an inherited feature, the upper arms can take on a saggy look due to excess skin, tissue, and fat. Brachioplasty restores a more attractive look to the arms by surgically remodeling and tightening the area.

Are you a candidate for an arm lift?

If you struggle with any of the following issues, you are likely a good candidate for a custom arm lift:

  • You have excess fat and skin hanging from your upper arms
  • You want to see more muscle definition and a more attractive upper arm contour
  • You have lost a significant amount of weight and have excess skin and fat on the upper arms
  • You want to be able to reveal your arms with confidence in sleeveless tops, dresses, and swimsuits

What is the procedure?

When under the care of Dr. Andres, brachioplasty surgery is performed using state-of-the-art surgical techniques. The goal is to create the ideal outcome, with the upper arms sculpted, firm, and youthful. The incisions placed will reflect your condition, typically running from the underarm to the elbow. In some cases, a minimal incision upper arm lift can be performed, with the incisions placed in the underarm, where once healed, they are virtually invisible. Even when the incisions are longer, they fade with time to appear as a fine, inconspicuous line.

Arm lift surgery usually requires general anesthesia as an outpatient surgery. You won’t feel discomfort during surgery but will be comfortable and relaxed. When completed, you will be released to return home, under the care of another adult, to rest and recover.

What is the recovery time for an arm lift?

Set aside one to two weeks for your recovery after brachioplasty. Take the time to rest and let your body heal. You must avoid putting any stress on the incisions and lifting your arms or picking up anything heavy. You will not be able to drive until the incisions are healed. If you work at a desk job, you should feel well enough to return to work in about a week or ten days.

In the early stage of recovery, the incisions will heal but continue to improve in appearance in the weeks and months ahead. To help speed healing, avoid drinking any alcohol during recovery, take gentle walks daily, eat a healthy diet, and stay hydrated.
