About this patient
This 47-year-old woman from Tucson, AZ visited our breast reconstruction and opted for delayed bilateral breast reconstruction. After several years of foregoing breast reconstruction after her mastectomies and radiation therapy, she finally decided to proceed with the procedure to avoid prosthetic bras as well as increase self-confidence, improve appearance in clothing, and come to a finalization after her initial diagnosis. She underwent bilateral flap-based reconstruction using tissue from her back as well as silicone gel implants. She is very happy with her reconstructed breasts and loves the size and shape of her new breasts. Her happiest comment is that she is not constantly reminded of her previous breast cancer/surgery as she was when she had absence of her breasts and had to wear breast prostheses and embarrassment with displacement of the garment during exercise and activity.
