About this patient
This young 19-year-old woman from Prescott, AZ with Poland Syndrome consulted with Dr. Andres at our Breast Reconstruction Center for this rare congenital deformity. She had complaints of breast asymmetry as well as feeling awkward, decreased confidence, and unhappy. She was diagnosed with Poland Syndrome - a congenital absence of the muscles of the chest along with other congenital abnormalities that may affect the breast development, hand, upper extremity, etc. She opted for breast reconstruction via fat transfer and reconstruction of the right chest wall. She had a procedure of silicone, cohesive gel implant placement on the left afterwards to give better symmetry. She is ecstatic about her results and states that her confidence, self-esteem, and appearance are much improved. She is back playing sports and doing activities that she felt ashamed doing at a younger age.
